The dictionary definition of resiliency is, “the ability to recover readily from illness, depression, adversity, or the like.” How do we show resiliency in our everyday lives? How have we seen people with disabilities show their resiliency? Why is the ability to be resilient so important to our survival? As a person? As a society?

There are many ways that we show resilency in our everyday lives. For example, like in a math class, we do a problem, and get it wrong, but try again and again, until you get it right. (Well, that basically shows those that don’t give up too easily.) But it is true, we all show some kind of resiliancy, whether it is getting over a fight with some one and even stand to be around them, no matter what kind of nasty things they have said about you or to you. But I think those that have the highest amount of resiliencey are those with disabilities because they are the ones that have to work the hardest to prove themselves. They have to show that no matter what is wrong with them, it won’t stop them from doing what they have to do to make it out here in this crazy and messed up world. I just believe that they have it the hardest and you have to respect them for how much they have to put through. The ability to be resilient is very important to survival because it is basically the survival of the fittest. If you’re not able to bounce back after something that knocks you back, you won’t be successul in life at all. That is how this world is; there is always something that will set you back. As far as it go for a person, you should be resilient because the best of things will come to those that will never give up. You should take a look at all of the famous people around here, they have been put to the test so many times, but they never gave up, no matter how hard it seemed. Society wise, if you fall, and let others walk all over you, then your whole world is being screwed over because you can’t stand up after something or some one said something to you and your society. I have a real high respect for those that have a high resiliency, because they are the ones that never give up no matter how tough the going might get. That’s why I like the saying, “When the going gets tough, the tough get going.”

I think that resiliency has a lot to do with us to actuall keep going with our lifes and make it the best that we can. I feel that if you aren’t able to forget and keep on going with your life your not going to be able to go throught a good and well educated life.I know all of us have to no matter what never look back at things because of the fact that we know this can effect us not just emotionaly but mentally as well. I know because i have gone thorught this and all I can say you can do is to try makeing the best out of your life and prove people that you dont let things get to you.

resiliency another way of saying they have recovered. everyday there is some kind of resiliency in our lives. we show resilency when we fail to comply orders. for example if your mother asked to take out the trash and you replied with a NO! thats a way of showing resiliency. i have not seen anyone with a disability resilience against anything but if they did it would probably be a good reason why. resiliency is important beause it shows that we as a person or a group can make a difference in any kind of situation.

Resiliency is always in our lives. For example I practice to play the guitar I don’t always get it right but I keep on trying and trying until I could get it. It’s something really hard to do so I try to show a lot of resiliency by practicing and practicing. I think people with disabilities are really hard for them to show resiliency but I know they try really hard to over come they’re disabilities and by that they show a lot of resiliency. I think this really helps us survive in the world because if we dint try and try we would be nothing in this world. I think we all have resiliency in our lives and there is no one that has that?

I beleive we all show some kind of resiliancy. Most of us know how to ride a bike. No one learned to ride a bike without falling. For some it was easier because they have good resiliancy. The handicap have good resiliancy because they always learn how to cop with thier disadvantages. Ok I’m Chris Hodge and I’m out.

This is a great discussion. However, I feel it would be easier to get your point across if you cut and pasted your response into Word first. Show your audience you care. Care about your own opinion! Put your best foot foward. Part of being resilient is learning from your mistakes. I hope this helps all of you learn to write in a way that helps others take you seriously. The world is a tough place to live in. Are you tough enough to do what it takes to be taken seriously or do you just expect that people will respect your ideas no matter how poorly they are presented?

People today are resilient by going on with life even through difficult times. For example, if a family member or a loved one dies the people affected will still carry on and not dwell on the death of the person. There are those who have been told that they will never walk again, due to a recent accident that has occured to him or her, and even though this has been said by a doctor he or she will try and walk to prove the doctor wrong and not letting this stop them. In contrast there are those who aren’t very resilient and that leads to a person either commiting suicide or by going down a dark path that will destroy there lives. If people are resilient the society will blossom.

“IT’S TRUE,” there are many different meanings for the word resiliency. Yet it depends on the person/society to make the meaning different. It could be used in real life to get over an argument or in a story to teach a lesson. Resiliency is a personal opinion and my opinion is that resiliency helps to overcome trauma.

I think just about everyone shows resiliency in their everyday lives because if we didn’t we would not survive. As a server, I have to bounce back from rudeness from guests, rather than let it get to me. I feel the same holds true for any job, even that of student. One has to interact with all different types of people, and these interactions can be less than pleasant. It is important to just take what happens, be resilient, and learn a lesson from life experiences in order to survive in our society, because if you don’t bounce back, there is always someone waiting to take your place!

I agree with Stephanie that just about everyone shows resiliency in their everyday lives. If the people in society had no resiliency, they would not be able to survive just plain old day to day living. When I try to reflect upon my own personal experiences and how I’ve shown resilience in the past, I automatically think of my healthy history. I am 23 years old and I have already had 3 open heart surgeries. Being that my heart condition is congenital (which means I’m born with it), it is a given that I will have to have constant re-do open heart surgeries for the rest of my life. The most recent surgery was 2 years ago and it was a very hard time for me physically and emotionally. Luckily I had enough spirit in me to bounce back on my feet in no time. If that’s not resiliency I dont know what is.
I also think that it is important to help others around you learn resiliency. If you notice that some of your loved ones are down and out, and life is getting the best of them, I think the best thing would be to help them understand that they need to be strong and help them get through it. Life is really all about getting through things, moving on and helping others, Dont you agree?

I am always impressed by the way people “bounce back” after enduring something so traumatizing. I look at them and can’t believe they are fighting back, enduring, and surviving. A question I ask myself is, “Would I be able to bounce back if I were in their situation?”
Recently, a friend of mine was in a horrible accident where both his legs were burned. He was hospitalized for several months. On top of this, he could not walk, drive, dress himself, or even go to the bathroom. But he fought back. Instead of letting this get in the way of his recovery, my friend did everything in his power to make sure he would one day walk again. Although doctors warned him not to have high hopes of being able to walk, he wouldn’t settle for that. Since the accident, my friend is up and walking (though not like he could before), and sharing his experiences to everyone he can talk to. For me, this is the ultimate example of bouncing back. True, my friend’s life will never be the same. But instead of giving up, he did his best to recover. If I am ever in any type of situation like this, I hope I too will be able to “bounce back.”

“I judge a man not by how high he climbs, but by how quickly he stands after a fall.”- Theodore Roosevelt
As a teacher-in-training I am blessed to see everyday miracles of resiliency as part of my career. When a student struggles with a multi-syllabic words in a language they have learned only two years prior, and with a smile they finally arrive at the correct pronunciation, THAT is resiliency. When a student afflicted with Down’s Syndrome finishes a class presentation, proudly displaying the painting he worked on for the last two weeks, THAT is resiliency. When a teacher, whose car has broken down for the fifth time this month, rides his rickety bicycle to school in the rain, just so that he can return the in-class essays to his students, THAT is resiliency. When a parent finds time between their three jobs to attend a student-teacher conference, still dressed in their brightly colored work uniform, THAT is resiliency.
Resiliency, as it turns out, is an everyday source of inspiration.

Everybody has a relation with resiliency. An example is when you apply for a job and they dont accept you, you are depressed. They show it by not holding back from their dissability. Its important because people will not be able to recover from their problem. They need to get along with their lives this is why resilience is so important in our lifes.
